Magna Cartas

I'm bored and can't sleep and I wrote this down in my notebook earlier meaning to blog about it so this seems like a perfect opportunity. The lists are far from perfect or complete...just so you know...

MC I

-back-tingling moments (sam says spine but shes wrong :))
-using will power to overcome adversity
-intense moments
-logical flow to storylines-i.e. things make sense at the end
-cliffhangers
-friendship
-bad guys who think they are right/justified villians
-talking to readers
-humour
-lightsabers
-shoot outs
-new technology
-puzzles
-complicated characters with redeeming qualities
-flashbacks and flashforwards...i.e. Lost: this show is ridiculously good and Jill did this really well in her book.

MC II

-out of character moments
-jerks for no reason
-nice people doing bad things
-overly aggressive characters
-pretentious authors (looking at you Katie ;))
-unimportant deaths

Its a much shorter list because I really enjoy most books, they usually all have some redeeming/ interesting quality about them and after attempting a novel you appreciate how much hard work goes into creating a novel.

Although Ultimates 3 (a graphic novel) was just terrible so miserable....I cant erase the horribleness from my mind.

  1. What a positive attitude, Scott!

No one has ever accused me of being a pretentious author before. I can only hope that was a joke!

  3. I completely agree with your point about villains who think they are right - it adds some complexity to the story. It's hard for me to accept villains who just like to be evil people.
